What are the Benefits of Plywood?
To All Our Valued Customers, Over the past few years, the Covid 19 Pandemic has forced us to adapt and change the way we do things on a day-to-day basis. Florida Lumber is no exception. To make sure that we remain strong and competitive in the market for the years to come, Florida Lumber has had to adjust and change our vision for the future. In the last 2 years, we have stopped selling Sheetrock and drywall products, roofing felt and roofing materials, and have even closed on Saturdays.
Over the last few months, we have been transitioning our way out of the door supply business so on August 31, 2022, our door shop will stop assembling doors. We will continue liquidating our doors from inventory until we are out of material.
Some customers have asked if we are closing or even moving locations. To set the story straight, we are not closing or selling the business and we are not moving. These changes are all part of our new vision and path to continue serving South Florida and increasing our footprint in the construction supply industry.
Our focus is going to be on Lumber, Construction Materials, Rebar Fabrication and Rebar Accessories. As we have liquidated some of the items that we don’t sell anymore we have created more space to buy a larger volume of our core items and pass on the savings to our customers.
In the next year you will start seeing changes that will help improve our ability to serve you, our customers. We appreciate your business and your patience as Florida Lumber’s new vision becomes reality.

Plywood has brought about many changes in the construction industry. Walls, flooring, kitchen cabinets and furniture represent the most common uses for plywood. Plywood is a wooden board consisting of more than one layer that is pressed and glued together with grains of layers arranged in such a way that they are at right angles to each other.
There are four types of plywood; structural plywood, which is often used to construct beams, subfloor, roof bracing, wall bracing and shipping crates; exterior plywood, which is normally used in roof linings, wall construction, outdoor flooring and stables; interior plywood, which is used for indoor furniture, ceiling and interior cladding; and finally, marine plywood, which is used in making docks and boats.
When it comes to today's construction, plywood is playing a major role in making work easier and simpler.
Benefits of Plywood in Construction:
1. Strength
One of the benefits of plywood is that it is relatively strong compared to its counterpart, solid wood. If you have furniture made of plywood, you can likely attest to this fact. The alternating pattern of grains in plywood makes it stronger. This grain further ensures that the strength is evenly distributed across the entire piece of plywood. Additionally, the fact it is manufactured from hardwoods and glued together using stronger phenolic adhesives increases its strength even further.
2. Attractiveness
Plywood is achieving a higher rating in the market because of its elegant and attractive nature. The smoothness has afforded furniture and floors a beautiful look. The fact that it’s manufactured from a strong and good quality veneer plays an important part in its visual appeal.
3. Durability
No one wants to have to replace their furniture all the time because it is worn out. Solid woods often have less capacity to withstand accidents or misuse. On the other hand, plywood due to its evenly distributed strength, can withstand falls or even impact from other heavy objects. Plywood saves you both time and money because it can endure for an extended period before it becomes worn. This is one of the primary factors in plywood’s popularity.
4. Availability in large sizes
If you are out in the market trying to diligently look for 8 x 4 size solid flat wood, you will inevitably hit a dead end. Solid woods have relatively small and limited sizes. However, with the advent of plywood, people have found a solution to that limitation.
Plywood comes in larger sizes, which makes it possible for it to be utilized in a variety of construction projects. You can easily find plywood with a large size of 1800mm of length and 1200mm of width.
5. Lighter than solid wood
Despite its larger size, plywood is relatively lighter and easy to transport. This benefit makes it more common in the fabrication of furniture pieces such as kitchen cabinets or cupboards.
6. Wider area coverage
Due to its large size, plywood can cover a more extensive area. You do not have to continually slice it. This minimizes the losses that can be incurred due to the wasting of plywood material.
7. Plywood conserves environment
Embracing the use of plywood in the construction and manufacturing industries has led to a tremendous decrease in deforestation. The use of solid woods requires more trees to be cut down. However, plywood products do not consume a great deal of wood. This is a great advantage with respect to the conservation of the environment.
8. Flexibility
Plywood comes in different varieties. For example, flexible plywood is a type of plywood that can be twisted to suit curved surfaces. If you ever want to construct a house with a curved ceiling or wall, then you have no reason to worry. Solid wood would have made it impossible for you to achieve it, but now flexible plywood is the ultimate solution.
9. Cost-effective
Plywood is more reliable because it is cheap and affordable. In addition, it can produce quality products that will be within the budget of most people. This is obviously one of the reasons why plywood is selling so well in today’s market.
10. Versatile
Plywood cannot only be used at home but in various other industrial applications, such as boat making, flooring or concrete shuttering.
