Why TREX® Decking Is a Smart Investment for South Florida Homes
To All Our Valued Customers, Over the past few years, the Covid 19 Pandemic has forced us to adapt and change the way we do things on a day-to-day basis. Florida Lumber is no exception. To make sure that we remain strong and competitive in the market for the years to come, Florida Lumber has had to adjust and change our vision for the future. In the last 2 years, we have stopped selling Sheetrock and drywall products, roofing felt and roofing materials, and have even closed on Saturdays.
Over the last few months, we have been transitioning our way out of the door supply business so on August 31, 2022, our door shop will stop assembling doors. We will continue liquidating our doors from inventory until we are out of material.
Some customers have asked if we are closing or even moving locations. To set the story straight, we are not closing or selling the business and we are not moving. These changes are all part of our new vision and path to continue serving South Florida and increasing our footprint in the construction supply industry.
Our focus is going to be on Lumber, Construction Materials, Rebar Fabrication and Rebar Accessories. As we have liquidated some of the items that we don’t sell anymore we have created more space to buy a larger volume of our core items and pass on the savings to our customers.
In the next year you will start seeing changes that will help improve our ability to serve you, our customers. We appreciate your business and your patience as Florida Lumber’s new vision becomes reality.

Why TREX® Decking Is a Smart Investment for South Florida Homes
South Florida is a beautiful place to live, with year-round sunshine and balmy breezes. Many people take advantage of this pleasant weather with outdoor living on a stunning, sturdy deck. Of course, South Florida also experiences its fair share of downpours, intense UV rays and high humidity. Unfortunately, these natural elements can quickly become a maintenance nightmare for homeowners.
A quality deck shapes the outdoor experience, and selecting decking materials involves considering aesthetics and durability. Homeowners looking to maximize life, reduce maintenance and enhance peace of mind will enjoy the many benefits of TREX® decking. Contractors and builders can rely on Florida Lumber, a certified TREX® supplier, for bulk or customized orders.
What Is TREX® Decking?
TREX® decking is a popular composite decking material. This high-quality blend of reclaimed wood and recycled plastic is low-maintenance, durable, functional and attractive, offering a long-lasting and visually appealing solution.
Many people in South Florida enjoy TREX®, especially compared to traditional wood and PVC decking. TREX® decking can withstand temperature and weather changes, allowing homeowners to avoid damages that result in the need for restaining or sealing. TREX® also has resistant properties that wood and PVC decking lack. For example, it will not succumb to termites, rot or mold.
Besides offering superior properties, TREX® products also come in several styles, colors and finishes to complement structures and landscapes.
- Enhanced groove decking: Hidden fasteners provide a smooth finish and a grooved profile.
- Enhance®: Suitable for traditional face-fastening methods and features a square-edged profile.
- Select®: Creates the look and feel of natural wood and boasts a scalloped underside to reduce weight while maintaining strength.
- Transcend®: Mimics the appearance of real wood with a high-definition grain pattern.
Why TREX® Is the Best Decking for Florida
The best decking for Florida homes offers longevity in challenging conditions and appealing aesthetics that complement the environment. TREX® also offers immense benefits.
- Resistant properties: This humidity-resistant decking material is also impervious to rot, mold and mildew. Along with providing a stunning look for years, being resilient against these natural occurrences creates a safer outdoor space for families and pets to enjoy.
- Long-lasting appearance: Homeowners looking for an easy-care decking material can rely on TREX® to provide a long-lasting solution. Cleaning is nearly effortless, only requiring soapy water and a mop to restore appearance. TREX® is also highly scratch-resistant, allowing homeowners to enjoy a smooth, unmarred appearance for years without needing to sand blemishes away.
- Durability in weather conditions: TREX® will not warp, splinter or fade under the Florida sun or salt air. This material has a weather-resistant shell that prevents deterioration and protects against cracking or splitting, even with ample rain. Homeowners can enjoy a smooth, safe surface for several decades while investing in minimal maintenance.
- Termite and insect resistance: This material also protects from termites and insects that can threaten the integrity of other decking materials. Wasps, carpenter ants, carpenter bees and some beetles often seek homes in wood materials, often destroying materials prematurely. TREX® alleviates these concerns, allowing homeowners to enjoy a sound and long-lasting outdoor space.
- Minimal maintenance: TREX® features a low-maintenance design. While traditional wood demands frequent painting, staining and sealing to protect from the elements, TREX® offers long-lasting beauty at a fraction of the effort. Owners can quickly wash their decks to maintain a flawless appearance while feeling secure every time they step outside.
Florida Composite Decking Long-Term Value and Cost Savings
The best composite decking offers long-term value through time and money savings. TREX® comes at a higher initial investment than wood. However, with the ability to cut recurring costs and enjoy the material for longer, the investment becomes well worth the price. Here's how TREX® saves time and money.
- Extended lifespans: Compared to wood, TREX® offers extended lifespans. While wood typically lasts for 10 to 20 years with proper maintenance, composite decking offers 25 to 50 years of life. With advanced engineering and minimal maintenance requirements, homeowners can enjoy their deck for decades.
- Lower maintenance: Homeowners can also find savings through reduced maintenance. The lack of sanding, staining or sealing requirements allows people to save on these material costs and the time necessary to apply them. Additionally, the high-quality material and advanced engineering in TREX® prevent the decking from experiencing cracking, warping or rotting, allowing homeowners to save on repair and replacement costs.
- High return on investment: A recent report shows a composite deck recoups just under 70% of costs when selling a home. Besides enjoying reduced maintenance and lowered costs, homeowners can get a higher return on investment if they decide to sell.
- Warranty coverage: TREX® offers industry-leading warranties for added peace of mind. Warranties vary by TREX® line, allowing homeowners to choose the products that meet long and short-term needs and budgets.
Eco-Friendly and Stylish for Enhancing Curb Appeal
TREX® is also a sustainable choice for environmentally conscious homeowners. It turns landfill-bound plastic and wood into a long-lasting and beautiful product. This decking material uses 95% recycled materials, creating a modern, high-end look that enhances curb appeal and resale value.
Unlike natural wood, which results from tree harvesting, TREX® gives new life to discarded materials and supports eco-conscious building without requiring ongoing chemical treatments. Contractors and builders can promote responsible sourcing while offering a high-performance solution.
